Suspected drugs, replica rifle seized in Niagara Falls

Two people were arrested and are facing drug trafficking charges

In April of 2023, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Street Crime Detectives assigned to 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara-on-the-Lake) commenced an investigation into the distribution of illegal drugs throughout the City of Niagara Falls.

On July 12, 2023, detectives received judicial authorization to execute a search warrant inside a trailer located on a residential property on Thorold Stone Road near Kalar Road, in the City of Niagara Falls. As a result of the investigation two suspects have been arrested.  In total, detectives recovered 24.3 grams of suspected carfentanil and 2.7 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine. In addition, detectives seized one replica rifle, one replica pistol, and $280 of Canadian currency believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of crime.

Archer Grant Karr (45 years) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of a firearm, weapon, or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of crystal methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Fail to comply with release order

Jodie Lea Powell (49 years) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of crystal methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking

Both Karr and Powell remain in police custody.  Both are scheduled to attend a bail hearing later today (July 13, 2023) via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
