West Lincoln councillors are offering free “slow down” lawn signs to the community.
Residents of West Lincoln can reach out to councillors Cheryl Ganann and William Reilly to get a “Please Slow Down!” sign while supplies last.
Reilly said that although West Lincoln isn’t the only community that deals with speeding problems, it has been something of an ongoing issue in the community. He said when he saw similar signs in Hamilton and other parts of West Niagara, it inspired him and Ganann to collaborate and purchase signs to give out to the community.
He said he chose lawn signs because he hopes to bring the issue to the attention of drivers “not in a distracting kind of way, but in a subtle kind of way.”
“As far as what anybody can do is, just do their best behind the wheel, honestly,” said Reilly, who said that there are typically two kinds of drivers who speed: those who always drive aggressively and those who sometimes don’t pay attention to the speed limit.
He encouraged community members to drive safely, follow the speed limit and try their best to be aware at all times, and keep an eye out, especially for younger children or seniors.
Those interested in receiving a sign can contact Reilly at 365-366-3447 or Ganann at 905-818-0022.
